The area is underlain by altered Lower Jurassic Hazelton Group rocks of the Unuk River Formation comprised mainly of crystal and lithic tuffs, sandstone and conglomerate. These volcaniclastics and sediments are comprised of biotite-rich beds, and in places have been altered to hornblende or amphibolite-rich cataclasite. To the west, the Hazelton Group rocks are intruded by Lower Tertiary quartz diorite.

In 1911 and again in 1929, it was reported that seven claims were located along the Unuk River about 10 kilometres north of the International Boundary to cover a 30 metre wide mineralized ledge which ran the entire length of seven claims (estimated at about 300 metres). Some tunnel work was done on the claims and the mineralized zone was reported to carry values of silver, copper, gold and lead.

The showing is plotted as occurring near the southern boundary of the Priam property owned by Winslow Gold Corp in 1989 (Assessment Report 19703). However, their investigation of this area indicated that the showing was misplotted (Assessment Report 19703). Their work elsewhere on the Priam proerty led them to believe that the Fewright showing may have been located in the east-central portion of the PRIAM 1 claim, though a recent slide had obscured any evidence of previous work.

Extensive investigation of the MINFILE plotted area of the showing also occurred in 1989 and 1990 by Canadian Cariboo Resources Ltd as the Cook claims (Assessment Report 19660. However the company could not locate any old workings or mineralization and they also concluded that the showing location was likely misplotted.

See the nearby Priam occurrence for related details (new MINFILE).

Work History

Newmont Exploration of Canada Ltd conducted an extensive reginal prospecting program in the 1960s. Maps resulting from this work are located in the Property File of the BC Ministry of Energy and Mines

In 1989, A total of 16 rock, 2 stream silt, and 3 heavy mineral samples were collected by Canadian Cariboo Resources Ltd on the Cook 1-4 claims (Assessment Report 19660). A limited amount of reconnaissance prospecting was conducted along the western side of this fault zone. No mineralization was located; however, iron staining was noted on cliffs along the east side of the lake.

The 1990 exploration program on the Cook 1-4 claims by Canadian Cariboo Resources Ltd consisted of helicopter supported contour soil sampling, stream silt geochemistry, lithogeochemical sampling and geological mapping with the objective of evaluating the property's economic potential (Assessment Report 20902). A total of 20 soil samples, 19 stream silt samples and four rock samples were collected from the property. These samples were obtained near the Flory Creek fault in the central part of the Cook 1 claim and from two gossanous subparallel incised gullies near the western claim boundaries of Cook 3 and 4 claims.

In 2006 and 2007, Hathor Exploration Ltd. completed a 7228.7 line-kilometre airborne geophysical survey on the area as the Pearly claims of the Iskut project. In 2008, Max Minerals Ltd. examined the property.
